1/2 c. butter
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. flour
4 egg yolks
5 T. milk
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Meringue:
4 egg whites
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
8 T. sugar
1/2 c. pecans - chopped

Custard:
2 egg yolks
1 c. milk
3 T. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3 T. flour

Directions:
Directions:
For batter:
Cream butter and sugar and add egg yolks. Add sifted dry ingredients alternating with milk and vanilla. Put in 2 medium size layer cake pans and set aside.
For Meringue:
Beat egg whites on high with salt and baking powder until stiff. Add sugar. Spread on top of cake batter in both pans. Sprinkle pecans over meringue. Bake at 325º for 40 minutes.
For Custard:
Place all custard ingredients except vanilla in top of bouble boiler and beat. Cook over boiling water until thick and creamy. Allow to cool. Add vanilla
To construct cake:
Spread custard filling between layers of cake (layers are placed meringue side up).
