1/2 lb. butter
1/2 cup Crisco
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
1 cup milk
3 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla extract (or lemon flavoring)

Directions:

Have all ingredients at room temperature.

*DO NOT* substitute other ingredients.

Cream butter, Crisco, & sugar. Add eggs one at a time and beat well.

Sift dry ingredients. Add alternately with milk and flavoring.

Grease and flour tube pan.

Start in a COLD oven (DO NOT PREHEAT). Bake at 300º F for about 1 1/2 hours or until cake pulls away from sides. Let cool in pan 15 minutes before turning out.
