Let me see........

I went to both Thomas Edison and Thomas Jefferson school.

I had a b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l rust orange dress with an uncomfortable net slip sewn into it. A little boy who walked to school at the same time as me but across the street from me, loved my dress and never neglected to tell me. I wore that uncomfortable little dress just for him.

My first "boyfriend" was named Johnny when I was 5. Most of my boyfriends were named John. My first husband was named John. I'm very happily and contentedly married to Pop, who's affectionately called Uncle Johnny Poozer by Gage.

One day when I was five, I was walking to school and saw some bones on the sidewalk and a couple of feet further, a dead little dog. I thought that the dog died because he pooped out his bones! Silly little girl....

I loved our babysitter.........Barbara Hamm. She was a very large, red-headed woman who loved Jeff and I. I decided after a few of the many hugs that she passed out to all of us kids in her care that I wanted to be a "fluffy" grandma someday.

Jeff, Mom and I used to sit on the fence at the grandparent's house on Philadelphia in Anaheim and watch the fireworks at Disneyland all summer long.

I remember one day being quite suddenly awaken by mom and she told me that our gold station wagon burned up because some guy fell asleep in the back with a cigarette. Did we have a mattress in there?

Getting the news that I was going to be stationed in Honolulu, HI then getting to call my mom and telling her.

The days of the kids building forts out of blankets, Hallie and Cody playing library and store, Trish and Hallie invading my closet and make-up then showing off their new look, Gabe sitting; all legs, on the coffee table (my hope chest made by dad) drawing for hours,
Cody playing tether ball in the backyard for hours.

My boys stinky, sweaty hockey hands.

Mom being the most creative, best mom in the whole world. Camping with clotheslines and blankets under the stars. Watching The Blob starring Steve McQueen on the living room floor in the dark with popcorn, pretending we were at the movies. Taking off to Idyllwild in the middle of the night then waking up in a motel room. Visiting grandma and grandpa in Hemet every weekend.

I remember Daddy Phil teaching me how to tie my shoes. I also remember getting in trouble and having to sit in what I remember was a little red rocking chair in the corner.

I remember Jeff having a teether that looked like a giant diamond ring.

I remember little 2-year old Jeff putting our car into gear while my mom was in a store and it rolling backward and me screaming my head off...... No wonder I'm a horrible passenger, now.

Thinking back on childhood memories brings a smile to my face and also reminds me of just how blessed our family is to have such love.
