3 cups shredded red cabbage
2 medium apples (cubed green ones are best)
1.4 cup brown sugar
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons bacon drippings
dash of caraway
1/8 teaspoon cloves

Directions:
Directions:
1. Combine all ingredients.
2. Cover and steam for 40 minutes over low-medium heat or until cabbage is tender.
3. Stir frequently (if it burns it smells terrible ---I have done it)
4. Serves 6 people---so you might want to double recipe.
5. Turn on kitchen fan--some odor to it.
6. It will taste so "gut"---(That means "good" in German.)
