2 cans minced clams
1 cup chopped onions
1 cup chopped celery
2 cups diced potatoes
3/4 cup butter
3/4 cup flour
1 qt. half and half
1 1/2 tsp salt
pepper to taste
1/3 cup sugar (to taste)

Directions:
Directions:
Drain juice from clams and pour over vegetables in sauce pan. Add enough water to barely cover and simmer, covered, over medium heat until potatoes are tender..about 20 minutes. In another pan melt butter, add flour, mix and cook for a minute or two. Add half and half. Stir and cook until smooth and thick. using a wire whisk to blend. Add undrained vegetables and clams and heat through. Season with salt and pepper and some sugar to taste.

This is a Grandma Tingey favorite tradition for Conference time and New Years. Corn can be substituted for the clams to make corn chowder. The Moore family also enjoys this delicious soup.
