Jan Brown

2 c.. water
1/1/2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
8 drops of red food coloring
1/4 c. margarine
2 c. flour
2 tsp. Baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk

Mix water, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and food coloring together in a pan and boil for 5 minutes. Add 1/4 cup margarine.
Mix flour, baking powder, salt, shortening and milk together until it is mixed like pie dough. Roll out a rectangle shape and then cut 6 squares. Peel and cut apples into slices, spoon apples onto square and add cinnamon and sugar to taste. (I like a lot of cinnamon and sugar.) Take corners of the square and fold over the apple mixture, pinch sides together. Place on a greased cake pan and pour syrup over them. Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes. Top with whipping cream or ice cream.
