I don't buy convenience foods except for soup. I try to make everything. There was a day when we went out for dinner a lot but no more. It costs a gob and we got FAT. I also used to buy gobs of ice cream and now I make it. We eat tons of fruit, veggies, whole grain breads and such, and lean meats. You can actually shop keeping in mind what's in the fridge and pantry. You can use the grocery store flier that lists all the sales as your menu planner. See what's on sale and plan your meals accordingly. Also, if you have a coupon for a sale item you CAN still use it on that item so for sure save coupons with no expiration date of items that you use all the time. Obviously, it's important to KNOW what's in those potential vortexes (pantry and fridge), so take inventory. You'll be surprised how many meals you can make from stuff you already have. We've been known to have a dinner of all veggies when we were out of other stuff if I wasn't ready to go to Stater's.
