1 c. dates chopped fine
1 tsp. soda
1 c. boiling water
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt

Topping:
1/2 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over the dates and soda. Set it aside. In mixing bowl, cream the shortening, add sugar and beat. Add eggs and beat well. Mix in the cooled date mix. Add flour and salt. Pour into a greased 9x13 cake pan. Then sprinkle the chips, sugar and nuts on top. Bake at 350º for 35 minutes.
