2 lbs. great northern beans
8 c. water
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. molasses (dark has more flavor)
1 large onion --- chopped
1 tbsp. salt
1 tbsp. pepper
1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
3/4 lb. meat--- shank end of ham or ham bone
or 1 to 2 lbs. bacon

Directions:
Directions:
Rinse beans and soak in cold water at least 8 hrs. OK to cover.
Pour off water and place in large dutch oven pan or slow cooker.
Add rest of ingredients.
Bring to a boil.
Then simmer for 8 hrs.
At the last hr. you can add a dash of ketchup or stewed tomatoes if you like the tomato taste.
