1/2 Cup shortening
1 1/2 Cups sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup mashed bananas
1 tsp baking soda
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 cup sour milk
1/2 cup chopped dates
1/2 cup nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugar. Add beaten eggs. Mix bananas, baking soda,and sour milk together. Add alternating this mixture with flour and salt combination. Add dates and nuts. Bake 30-35 minutes in 350 º oven.
Topping:
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup cream or evaporated milk
1/2 cup melted butter
1 cup coconut
Combine ingredients. Spread topping on cake while warm. Put under broiler for 2 minutes.
