1 1/2 c. water
1 1/2 c. raisins
2 T. molasses
2 T. shortening or oil
2 tsp. baking soda
1 egg (well beaten)
1 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Boil raisins and water for 5 minutes.
Add shortening, sugar, soda & molasses.
Let cool and then add egg, salt, flour and vanilla.
Put into two greased and floured one pound
coffee cans - 1/2 full.
Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
