1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. sour cream
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/3 c. dates

Stir together flour, baking powder, soda, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt; set aside. Cream shortening, add sugar. Add eggs, beating well. Beat in vanilla. Alternately add flour mixture and sour cream to butter mixture. Gently stir in dates. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
