1 1/2 cup melted shortening
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup molasses
2 eggs
4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. cinnamon
4 cups flour
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
In mixing bowl combine shortening, sugar, molasses and eggs. Beat well. Mix in the remaining ingredients and chill until firm - 30 - 60 minutes. Roll into balls. Shake in bag of sugar. Bake at 375 º for 8 - 10 minutes.

If available, use the large decorative clear sugar crystals in the last step - they make the cookies prettier than just regular sugar.
