cake: 1 stick butter, 6 oz Hershey's syrup, 1 cup sugar, 1 Tbsp vanilla, 4 eggs, 1 cup flour, 1 Tbsp baking powder

icing: 1 cup sugar, 1 cup butter, 4 oz semisweet chocolate chips, 1/3 cup evaporated milk

For cake: cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each. Add flour and baking powder, alternating with syrup. Bake in a 9x13 breased pan for 25 minutes at 350º.

For icing: Bring all ingredients to a boil and stir constantly for two minutes. Beat well with a hand mixer til thicker, then pour over cake in the pan.

I remember this from my childhood as a very special treat, intensely chocolate. The icing takes on a very nice sheen as it solidifies on the cake.
