1 c. shorting
1c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1c. molasses
1c.sour milk ( 1 tsp vinegar with 1 c. milk)
51/2 c.flour
4 tsp. soda
2 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt

Mix ingredients in order given. Put mixture in refrigerator(overnight). Roll to 1/4in. thick and cut with Spam can. Bake at 325º for 10-12 minutes. Cool and frost. This makes a big batch Frosting : 1 pkg. Knox gelatine
1 c. cold water
1c.granulated sugar
1 3/4c. powdered sugar
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla

Dissolve gelatine in cold water. Place in pan and add sugar. Stir and bring to boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and por in bowl and add powdered sugar and vanilla. Beat with mixer until thick and creamy, takes a while so don't give up. Spread on cookies and let frosting set.
