1/2c. shortening
1 1/2c. sugar
2 egg yolks
2 egg whites
2 1/2c. sifted flour
1/4tsp. salt
4tsp. baking powder
1c. milk
1tsp. vanilla
2 squares unsweetened chocolate

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Line the bottom of two 8 inch cake pans with wax paper. Grease paper and sides of pan. Melt chocolate. Beat shortening and then blend in the sugar and egg yolks. Mix and sift dry ingredients and add to batter alternately with milk and vanilla. Fold in beaten egg whites. Divide batter and add chocolate to one of the halves. Pour a circle of white batter into the center of one of the prepared pans. Surround with a circle of the chocolate batter. Alternate batters until the pan is full. In the other pan pour a circle of the chocolate batter in the center and surround with the white batter, then chocolate, ext. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Cool and fill and frost with chocolate icing.
