3/4 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1-1/4 cups white sugar
2 eggs
2 cups chunky applesauce
1-1/2 tsp baking soda--put one tsp in flour, 1/2 tsp in applesauce
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cloves
2 tsp cinnamon
3 cups all purpose flour
(Opt.) 1/2 cup black walnuts, chopped

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease and flour a tube or bundt pan. Cream sugar and shortening until fluffy. Add eggs; beat until well-mixed. Add dry ingredients alternately with applesauce, starting and ending with dry stuff. Fold in nuts, if used. Bake in tube pan about 1-1/2hours.

This makes a delicious fall/winter cake. My kids love to eat it for breakfast! Try it with whipped cream and peaches--yum!
