Sauce:
1 28 oz. can tomato puree
1 28 oz. can crushed tomatoes in puree
1 6 oz. can tomato paste
1 can water (28 oz.)
4 T. olive oil
1/4 c. sugar (may be omitted)
1/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese or Romano cheese
salt, pepper, oregano and basil to taste
2 bay leaves

Meatballs:
1 lb. hamburger
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 slice moistened white bread
2 T. chopped onion
1/4 c. grated cheese
2 T. chopped fresh parsley
salt and pepper to taste

Sauce:
Saute garlic and onion in olive oil. Add to puree, tomatoes, paste and water. Mix together. Add sugar, cheese, bay leaves and seasonings. Simmer for 3 hours.

Mix meat ball ingredients together without over mixing. Brown in olive oil and add to tomato sauce.

Uncle Phil adds his meatballs to the sauce without browning. They do cook through, so doing it that way will save time.
