1-½ lbs ground beef
1-½ cups chopped onion
1 cup chopped green bell pepper/carrot/celery (any combo of these)
2 cloves minced garlic
3 cans (15 ounces each) rinsed, drained dark red kidney beans
2 cans (15 ounces each) tomato sauce
1 can (14 ½ ounces) diced tomatoes
4-5 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon dry hot mustard powder
¾ teaspoon dried, crushed basil leaves
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 tsp salt
1 TB sugar
1 TB vinegar
1 to 2 dried hot chili peppers (optional)



Directions:
Directions:
Cook and stir ground beef, onion, bell pepper and garlic in large skillet until meat is browned and onion is tender. Drain excess fat. Place beef mixture in slow cooker.

Add kidney beans, tomato sauce, tomatoes, chili powder, mustard powder, basil, black pepper and chili peppers, if desired; mix well.

Cover; cook on LOW 8 to 10 hours in a crock pot or 4 hours on the stove top
