For 1 qt. of dill pickles you will need:
2 large sprigs of dill
1 clove garlic - sliced
3 tsp. salt
2 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. powdered alum
1 1/2 c. vinegar
1 1/2 c. water

Directions:
Directions:
Wash cucumbers and drain. Combine salt, sugar, alum, vinegar and water in a large sauce pan. Boil together for 10 minutes. Pack cucumbers into hot jars, add dill and garlic. Ladle hot liquid over cucumbers, leaving 1/4 in. head space. Remove air bubbles. Put on two piece caps and process quarts 15 minutes in a boiling water canner.
