l/4 lb. soft butter
1 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. lemon peel
1/2 tsp anise extract
1/2 tsp. anise seeds
3 pears
2 T. lemon juice
1 tsp. anise seeds
2 T. sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Add flour, vanilla, lemon peel, and anise and mix well. Spread into greased 10" glass pie pan.
Cut pears in half lengthwise, remove core; half again. Lay pears on batter, pointing points toward center and using extra pieces to fill in empty spaces. Sprinkle on the lemon juice, anise, and sugar.
Bake 375ºF 40-50 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Remove from pan in 30 minutes or serve later from pan.

Good warm or cold, with ice cream or whipped cream.
May omit lemon juice and anise and substitute other fruit for pears.
