1 C. shortening
1/4 C. sugar
1/2 C. brown sugar
1 egg
2 Tbsp. milk
21/4 C. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves(ground)
1/2 C. finely chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening & sugars. Add milk & egg. Beat well. Sift together dry ingredients. Stir into creamed mixture. Add nuts. Shape into 2 rolls(logs); 21/2" in diameter. Wrap each log in waxed paper. Chill well. Slice about 1/4" thick. Place 1" apart on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake in oven at 375º for 5-7 minutes; or until delicately browned. Makes about 6 dozen cookies.

This is a recipe from my mother. JuJu and I used to help Mom make these cookies and send them to our Dad when he was overseas in Japan.
