2 sticks butter or margarine
1/2 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 1 Tbsp. boiling water
3 1/2 c. plain flour
1 tsp pure vanilla
1 tsp lemon
1 tsp. almond
1 tsp. Coconut
(use 2 tsp. if using imitation flavorings)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together butter, shortening, and sugar. Add 1 egg at the time beating well after each addition. Mix baking soda mixture into buttermilk. Gradually add flour and buttermilk to batter alternating beginning and ending with flour. Add flavorings and mix well. Pour batter into a bunt cake pan and place into a cold oven.

DO NOT PREHEAT OVEN!!!!

Bake at 325º for 1hr 20min. Be certain to use a cold oven for this.
