1 lb. chopped dates
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup boiling water
1 cup white or brown sugar
1 tbsp butter or margarine
1 beaten egg
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
pinch salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 tsp vanilla flavouring.

Method:-
Put first five ingredients in bowl and mix well.
Add beaten egg, sift together flour, baking powder and salt add to mixture. Stir well.
Add flavoring and nuts.
Put in greased pan and let sit for 15 minutes.

Bake in 350ºF from 50 minutes to 1 hour.
