3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs, separated
1-1/4 cups flour
1 cup nuts pecans or fresh walnuts(chopped)
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup margarine or butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
Cream 3/4 cup brown sugar and margarine. Add egg yolks and vanilla and stir. Sift in the flour and baking powder; mix well. Press into an 8-inch square pan and sprinkle with 1 cup chopped nuts. Beat the egg whites until stiff, then beat in 1 cup brown sugar. Pour over top of cake mixture and nuts.

Bake in moderate oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cut into squares when cool.
