3 1/4 cup flour
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2-1 3/4 cup buttermilk


Optional :
1/2 c raisins or currents
1T. caraway seeds
1/4 chopped black olives

Preparation Time: 30 minutes

Preheat oven to 400º. Sift dry ingredients. Make a well in the center. Pour milk in the well. Mix ingredients only until just blended with wooden spoon. Add raisins, currents, caraway seeds or olives if desired. Turn out onto floured board. Knead lightly for less than a minute. Form dough into a 12 " circle loaf on greased baking sheet. Cut an X in top to let the fairies escape. Bake 20-30 min.
