4 c. chopped apples
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/2 c. vegetable oil
2 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
choppped nuts (optional)

Topping:
1 c. sugar
2 T. cornstarch
1/2 c. buttermilk
1/2 c. oleo
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine apples and sugar; let stand. Mix eggs with oil and vanilla. Mix flour, salt, baking soda, and cinnamon; stir into egg mixture alternately with sugar and apples. Pour into 9" x 13" pan and bake for 1 hour at 350º.
Topping: In small saucepan, stir together cornstarch and buttermilk until well blended. Add sugar, oleo, and vanilla. Bring to a boil; boil for 1 minute. Pour sauce over warm cake.
