1 1/2 c or 1 pack of dates
1 1/2 c boiling water
2 tbsp shortening
1 1/2 c sugar
1 tsp salt
1 egg
2 3/4 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 c chopped nuts
1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Wash and cut dates in quarters. Pour boiling water over dates and add shortening, sugar, and salt. When cool add egg. Sift together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar. Beat all and add nuts and vanilla. Bake 350º for 1 1/4 hours in 2 small pans.
