1 bag caramels (about 14 oz or 50 unwrapped)
2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
1 box German chocolate cake mix
3/4 cup melted butter or margarine
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Melt the caramels with 1/3 cup of the sweetened condensed milk over medium heat or in the microwave. Set aside. In large bowl, combine the cake mix, butter, nuts and remaining sweetened condensed milk. Stir thoroughly until well combined and crumbly. Press half the dough evenly into a greased and floured 9 * 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes. Remove from oven and cool slightly.
Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the baked layer, then the caramel mixture, working quickly with a broad spatula. Crumble the remaining half of the dough over the caramels and press lightly with a spoon.
Return to oven and bake 14-18 minutes at 350º , until top is set and mixture pulls away from side of pan. Cool 30 minutes, then refrigerate until firm, Cut into 48 squares.
