1 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup shortening
2 cups pecans, chopped
1 cup dates, chopped
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups self rising flour
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon soda
1 tablespoon hot water
1 cup candied cherries, chopped
1 cup candied pineapple ( I substitute sugared orange slices), chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar & shortening. Add eggs. Sift together 1 cup of the flour, allspice & soda. Stir into creamed mixture. Add water, then fruits and nuts mixed with the remaining cup of flour. Crop by spoonsful on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350º approximately 10 minutes or until brown.
