1 cup raisins
1 cup water
¾ cup shortening
1 ½ cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 ½ cups flour
½ tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
½ t. cloves
2 cups oats
½ cup chopped nuts

Directions:

Simmer raisins and water in sauce pan over low heat until raisins are plumb (20-30 minutes). Drain liquid from raisins into measuring cup. Add enough water to make ½ cup. Heat oven to 400 degrees.

Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, & vanilla. Sir in raisin liquid
Measure flour and sift. Stir together flour, baking soda, salt and spices. Blend into shortening/sugar mixture. Add rolled oats, nuts and raisins. Drop by rounded tsp. 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes.
