Directions:Put a bunch of friends together at a lunch/brunch Small talk - bible study group - friends One mother (me) trying to impress One son who had been taught to be himself all his life
Enter son from school - looks at friends, looks at mom (me) looks at food - listens for a moment - forgoes food
Son leaves room Mom follows
Mom asks Son what is wrong - He just looks at her and says - "I don't know you when you are with them. You are one way with them and another way with me. I don't like the person you try to be when you are with them."
Son, is Roy Jr. who walks out with his head down. I have to go back in and sit and finish lunch - knowing in my heart that my son is right - my lunch - humble pie. |

Notes: This actually happened. It was an eye opener to me and for me. It was the best thing that could have happened. It was humbling and enlightening and yes, I did apologize and yes, my son was right. I not only apologized but I tried and try to be myself where ever I am and with whom ever I am with now. I never want him or anyone else to have to walk away again. I found out that what I told him was true it is best to be yourself - and I have found out over the years that what I have tried to teach him I have had to live - and usually a child can make humble pie mighty tasty.
