3 pints of Fig preserves, 2 sticks butter, and a box and a half of butter yellow cake mix.

Heat oven to 350. Spread the fig preserves in the bottom of a 13"x9" bake pan. Spread the dry cake mix over the figs. Cut the butter into strips,1/8 inch or less, and cover the cake mix. It's ok if there is gaps between the strips of butter, it will melt into the cake mix. Bake until top starts to brown. 30-40 minutes, depending on your oven. The number of servings is directly proportional to the amount of cold milk you have on hand to go with it.

Once you get the hang of it, you can do the prep in the time it takes to heat the oven. The top will be real crunchy at first, I actually prefer it the next day, when some of the fig juice has soaked into the crust and softened it.
