3/4 C shortening
1 C packed brown sugar
1/2 C granulated sugar
1 egg
1 C flour
1/2 tsp soda
1/4 C water
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp salt
3 C quick cooking Quaker Oatmeal

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degree's Beat shortening, sugars, eggs, water, vanilla together until creamy. Sift together flour, salt and soda and add to creamed mixture. Blend well. Stir in oats. May add 1/2 cup nuts or raisins if desired. Drop by teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet. Bake in preheated oven 12 to 15 minutes

As children growing up in the 50's, these were our favorite cookies. My Dad would make these on the weekends and they were so good warm from the oven.
