4 slices bread, toasted
2 T softened butter
1/3 C brown sugar, packed
1/2 tsp cinnamon
3 eggs, slightly beaten
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
dash salt
2 1/2 C milk, scalded
raisins if desired

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Toast bread slices lightly; trim crusts. spread slices with softened butter; sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Cut each slice into 4 pieces. Arrange pieces buttered side up in greased 1 1/2 cup casserole. Sprinkle with raisins if using. Blend eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla and salt. Slowly stir in milk. Pour mixture over bread. Place in square pan 9 inches square. Pour very hot water into pain, about 1 inch deep. Bake until knife inserted halfway between edge and center comes out clean, 65 to 70 minutes. Remove casserole from water. Serve pudding warm or cold.
