Soft Sugar Cookies Recipe

1 c. butter
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
7 c. flour (may need more)
2 tsp. baking soda
4 tsp. cream of tartar
3 tsp. vanilla

Buttercream Frosting:

1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. margarine
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. powdered sugar (approx. 1 lb.)
2 tbsp. milk

Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar, beat in eggs. Add dry ingredients. Dough should not be too sticky, if so- add a bit more flour. Divide into 4 balls and put in plastic wrap, and store in fridge at least 30-45 minutes or overnight. (It makes it easier to work with.)
Roll out dough on floured board. (One plastic wrap ball of dough at a time) and cut into desired shapes.
Place on lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 400 for 6-7 minutes.

When cool, frost with Buttercream Frosting:
Cream butter and shortening with electric mixer. Add vanilla, and gradually add powdered sugar one cup at a time. Beat well on medium speed. Frosting will be thick. Add 2 tbsp. milk and mix well. Add color if desired.
