2 c Thinly Sliced Apples
1 T Sugar
1/2 c Brown Sugar
½ tsp Salt
1/3 c Shortening
1 T Lemon Juice
1/2 c Milk
1 ½ c Flour
1 well beaten Egg
3 tsp Baking Powder
2 T Sugar
add ½ tsp cinnamon and ½ tsp nutmeg.

Directions:
Directions:
Arrange apples in greased 8 x 8 x 2” pan.
Sprinkle with mixture of 1c sugar, extract,
and lemon juice.
Heat at 400° in oven while preparing
shortcake.
Sift together flour, baking powder,
1 T sugar, and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles course crumbs.
Add milk and egg at once; stir until flour is
just moistened.
Spread dough over hot apples.
Sprinkle with 2 T. sugar.
Bake at 400° for 35-40 min.
