1 pkg yeast
1 cup warm water
2 cups scalded milk
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
6 cups flour


1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup milk
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup icing sugar

Doughnuts: Dissolve yeast in warm water. Scald milk and add shortening. Cool. Add beaten egg and yeast. Mix in flour to make a soft dough. Knead and let rise 1/2 and hour. Roll out and cut with doughnut cutter. Fry in deep hot oil. Place on brown paper. Glaze while still warm. Makes 4 dozen. Glaze: Bring ingredients to boil. Remove from heat and add salt, icing sugar and vanilla. Beat with beater. Keep warm. Dip warm doughnuts into glaze. Serve.
