1 c. sugar
3 tsp. salt
3/4 c. shortening
3 c. milk
1 yeast cake
1/2 c. lukewarm water

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together the sugar, salt and shortening. Refrigerate overnight. In the morning, scald 3 cups milk and pour over refrigerated mixture. Cool. Dissolve one yeast cake in 1/2 c. lukewarm water. Add to milk mixture. Add flour until mixture is thick. Knead flour until dry. Grease a pan, and put the dough in it. Let dough rise in a warm place until double its original size. Dump on board and knead down. Spread and cut into thirds. Put dough in three greased bread pans, and let it rise until double its size (about one hour).

Preheat oven to 325º. Bake dough for 10-15 minutes, then cut the heat to 275º and bake for about an hour.
