1 C 3 min. cooking oats
1 1/2 C boiling water
1 C brown sugar
1 C sugar
1/2 C shortening
2 eggs
1 1/3 C flour
1 t salt
1 t cinnamon
1 t soda
1/2 C raisins
1/2 C nuts, chopped


Topping:
1/4 C melted butter
1/2 C brown sugar
1/4 C cream
1/2 t vanilla
1 C flaked coconut (can leave this out if like)
1/2 C nuts, chopped

Serves: 10
Preparation Time: 30 minutes

Pour water over oats and let stand for 20 minutes. Cream shortening and sugar, then stir in eggs. Pour shortening mixture into oatmeal. Stir dry ingredients in separate bowl then pour into oatmeal mixture. Stir well. Bake in ungreased 8"x 8" pan for 35-40 minutes at 350º.
Remove cake from oven and pour topping over cake and put under broiler for 3 minutes or until toasty golden brown.
