1 c shortening
1 1/2 c sugar
3 eggs
1 T baking powder
1 t baking soda
1 c milk
2 large oranges
1 c raisins
1 t vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, add sugar & beat well. Beat eggs and add to sugar & shortening; beat. Dissolve the soda in milk and add to the mixture.
Squeeze the juice out of the oranges. Put rind of oranges through the food chopper, also the raisins. Then add juice of oranges to these.
Add flour & b.p. to make a very stiff batter, much stiffer than for other kinds of cake.
Add the vanilla, beat well. Add raisins & orange mixture, stir well together.
Bake in moderate oven in layers.
