1 c. chopped dates
1 c. boiling water
1 t. baking soda

1/2 c. butter or margarine
1/2 c. vegetable shortening
1 c. sugar
2 beaten eggs
1 t. vanilla

1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 t. salt
3 T. cocoa

1 pkg. (12 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1 c. chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Combine first 3 ingredients. Let stand until cool. Blend together butter, shortening and 1 c. sugar. Add 2 beaten eggs and 1 t. vanilla. Blend in flour, salt and cocoa. Fold in cooled date mixture and pour into a 9x13x2 1/2 inch pan. Spread chocolate chips and nuts over top and bake at 350º for 35-45 min.
Freezes well.
