1 deep dish pie crust
PIE FILLING:
1/2 cup sugar
3 tablespoons all purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon salt
6 cups thinly sliced, pealed apples (Jonathan are good)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
CRUMB TOPPING:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup quick cooking rolled oats
1/2 cup butter (softened)
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Preheat oven to 375
PIE FILLING:
Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt. Add apples and lemon juice. Gently toss until coated. Put in pie crust.
CRUMB TOPPING:
Stir together brown sugar, flour and rolled oats. Stir in butter until topping is like coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle crumb topping over apple mixture. Place pie on baking sheet. Cover edges of pie crust with foil. Bake at 375º for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for additional 25-30 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with nuts. (you can also drizzle with caramel if you like)
