2 cups cherries, fresh or canned
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon butter

Directions:
Directions:
Combine cherries with 1 cup of sugar and allow to stand while mixing the remainder. Sift into mixing bowl the flour, sugar, baking powder. Add milk and mix well. Melt butter and add to batter. Pour batter into greased baking dish and pour cherries over top. Bake in a moderate oven for about 45 minutes. Serve with cream.

Many years ago, the lady who submitted this recipe to her local newspaper received a pair of pinking shears for her effort! You can see that it is a very old recipe, hence the "serve with cream". Who has real cream these days? The modern way would state serve with whipped cream. Also, exactly what is a moderate oven anyway??? Other fruits can be substituted, as well.
