2 tbsp olive oil
3 tbsp chopped shallots or green onions
1 ½ cups dry white wine
1/3 cup minced fresh or dried parsley
½ tsp salt
¼ to ½ tsp crushed red pepper
¼ tsp pepper
8 garlic cloves, minced
2 pounds or more clams or mussels in shell, scrubbed

Heat oil in a large steam pot over medium heat. Add onions and sauté 2 minutes. Add wine and next 5 ingredients, bring to a boil. Add clams and cook 5 minutes or until shells begin to open. Serve with Italian bread for dipping in broth.
