1 cup shortening (originally lard)
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup molasses or sorghum
1 cup hot water or hot coffee
3 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Combine shortening, sugar, eggs, syrup, and liquid. Sift together flour, soda, salt, ginger and cinnamon and add to first mixture. Bake in jellyroll pan (about 18 x 12 x1 inch) for 20 minutes at 350 degrees or until tested done. Frost with powdered sugar frosting glaze while still slightly warm. Cut into squares. Store covered.
