4 eggs (beaten until light)
2 1/2 c. sugar
10 c. half and half
2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 tbsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Add sugar to beaten eggs gradually and heat until thick. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Pour mixture into a 5 quart ice cream freezer. Makes 1 gallon. Double the recipe if you wish to make 2 gallon

Making homemade ice cream was a family affair when I was young. Dad said that it taste better when "handcranked" and so the kids and grandkids took their turn at cranking the ice cream freezer until it became to hard to turn. The white mountain ice cream freezer was the freezer of choice. Top this over the chocolate sheet cake that Nancy added.
