4 strips bacon, cut up
1 cup cubed cooked ham
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
2 1 lb cans tomatoes, cut up
1 cup water
2 T brown sugar
2 T vinegar
1 tsp salt
3 lb jar Great Northern cooked beans

Directions:
Directions:
In heavy kettle cook bacon until crisp. Remove bacon; drain on paper towels. Reserve 2 T bacon drippings in kettle and cook ham, onion and green pepper until meat is browned and vegetables are tender. Add tomatoes, water, brown sugar, vinegar and salt. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; add bacon and simmer, covered, for 10 minutes. Reserve 2 cups of beans, and mash the remaining beans. Add whole and mashed beans to soup. Heat well and keep hot until serving. Makes 6-8 servings.
