1 cup raisins
1 cup water
3/4 cup shortening
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp nutmeg
2 cups oats
1/2 cup walnuts, optional

Directions:
Directions:
In saucepan, cook raisins in water until plump, about 15 minutes. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup liquid. In a mixing bowl cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Stir in raisin liquid. Blend in dry ingredients. Stir in raisins, oats and walnuts. Drop in spoonfuls about 2 inches apart on parchment paper or ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375º for 8-10 minutes or until light brown. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
