Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup margarine or shortening
2 cups sugar
1 well beaten egg
1 1/2 cup applesauce
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup boiling water
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the margarine or shortening and sugar. Add the egg and applesauce. In another bowl place the flour, salt, cinnamon and allspice. Dissolve the soda in the 1/2 cup boiling water. Now add the flour mixture alternately with the soda water. Add the walnuts and raisins. (I like to coat the raisins with a couple tablespoons of flour to keep them from sinking to the bottom.) Bake at 350º for 1 hour in a tube pan. Can be baked in 2 loaf pans but will take less cooking time.
